Merry Christmas

I could not help but notice that the cashiers at my local Walmart cheerfully sent customers on their way with a "have a nice day" this Christmas Eve. Far from the culturally-sensitive/non-religious, "happy holidays" ...  'have a nice day' felt so tepid and. .. void.
PEACE ON EARTH without a Savior, JOY minus salvation, HOPE with no mention of eternity, LOVE void of redemptive sacrifice, Christmas without CHRIST.
This year my family stayed home for Christmas. I did, however, visit my grandmothers in Ensenada and my mother-in-law in Tijuana before Christmas. I took pictures of both of my grandmothers and their nativity scenes.
I made a conscious effort to soak in the season this year. The Christmas carols we sang at church, the lights on people's homes, my grandmothers' nativity scenes... the scent of cinnamon scented candles... all of it.
I moderately decorated my home with two poinsettias, my children's Christmas crafts and candles.
I gave gifts but did not write any Christmas cards. Somehow I was unable to find one with the message I wanted to share or an image that communicated my true joy, the very merry, message that God came to save, to show His LOVE, that we might find JOY in HOPE and PEACE in Him.  I should have made my own.
Merry Christmas :)
